At the 2018 SLS High School conference we were able to honor the SLS Advisor of the Year Sophia Lafayette from Walled Lake Northern High School. Mackenzie Ryder shared a speech with all of us congratulating the Advisor of the Year and we would like to share that below.
“Hello everyone, I would like to take this moment so we could recognize each of our chapter’s advisors. I think we all know that without our advisors our chapters would not be a successful as they are. They’re guidance and helpfulness towards us and our vision is the true meaning of leadership. Though this organization is called Students Leading Students, it could not be possible without the help and support of our adult figures. I would like you all to take a moment and thank your advisors, and if they’re not here thank your chapter members, for being so supportive and working to create the best environment for our schools possible. Now I would like to present the Award for Advisor of the Year.
The Advisor of the Year award goes to an advisor who goes above and beyond their role and responsibilities. This advisor is the Assistant Principal and the founding advisor of their schools SLS Chapter. They helped their students find the true meaning and mission of Students Leading Students. They believe in the importance of SLS’ message and continue to help the chapter grow. Even though the SLS chapter is primarily run by students, this advisor helps guide the student’s ideas and supports all of the student’s projects and events.
Their strong-will, determination, kindness, flexibility, and belief in their students will help their SLS Chapter to continue to be successful. Students describe this advisor as the truest representation of students who grow up to be leaders. The recipient of this award could not be here this weekend, as they were committed to other school functions. Please help me congratulate the 2018 SLS Advisor of the Year from Walled Lake Northern, High School, Sophia Lafayette.”
